timeline and waiting

"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23

Many have asked exactly what all is going on due to learning about dad, my job search, our move, etc. later on...here is a basic timeline of "events" for those that might just be joining this journey with us. 

  • July 27: Tye and I loaded everything in our tiny apartment onto a Uhaul and moved it into a storage unit in Bella Vista, AR. He accepted a job teaching two engineering classes at Bentonville High School, so we moved in with my parents until I find a job or give up and get a part time job. Prior to our moved, I had several leads on a job and had already had two interviews. 
  • August 9: Dad had a colonoscopy that revealed a mass in his lower colon (melanoma). 
  • August 14 or 15: Tye was recruited to help with one of the freshman football teams. 
  • August 16: Carlie moved in at the University of Arkansas and began marching band practice.
  • August 19: A PET scan showed that the cancer had not spread to his liver. Praise Jesus. 
  • August 21: Mom and Dad's anniversary and their anniversary. The mass was removed, although some remaining microscopic cancer cells were left. 
  • September 6: A diagnostic procedure was performed to see what treatment dad would need for a complication from his first surgery. 
  • Around this time, all of my leads seemingly disappeared. 
  • September 11: Dad had his third procedure in less than a month. He was released this past Monday (16th). 

Yesterday, a couple new leads on a job surfaced. I am pretty excited about them and am really hoping that one of them might be the right fit. Tye is really liking his job, and he really enjoys coaching.

Dad is doing pretty well. He came home on Monday and has gained quite a bit of energy since then. He hasn't had a problem with appetite, so that is something we are extremely thankful for considering it is vital to his healing. Basically, now we wait. 

He will go back for a check up next week and hopefully have surgery again in 6-8 weeks. The surgery they did last week was a temporary fix for a complication from his first surgery. Ultimately, the goals is for him to have radiation to get rid of any and all remaining cancer cells. Unfortunately, we have to wait until his body heals from surgery to do that.

There has been a theme surrounding my life it seems...patience..waiting. Really though, when we have to wait, we are really being called to trust. Waiting has nothing to do with the Lord needing more time. Waiting has everything to do with my heart. The Lord is waiting for us to be still. 

Exodus 14:14 "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."
