Please Share. Calling all memories/Billy Kerr-isms.

If you know me well, you know I love talking about my dad. I think he was the most wonderful person that ever lived, and I take every moment to brag on him, tell stories about him, and just boast in his character. Seriously, all the time.

With that, we have heard many stories about my dad that we never knew (professional relationships, friendship stories, etc.). We would love for you to share these with us! I want to build a memory book of images we shared at his service and stories we collect from friends, relatives, and so on. If you would like to share a story, quote, etc. with us, please email them to cbk0824@gmail.com with Bill Kerr Story (or something of this nature) in the subject line.

I likely won't construct this book anytime soon, but as we heal, I know I will find great comfort in the joy my dad brought to others.
In an effort to show you kind of what I'm talking about, here are my top 5 Billy Kerr-isms (quotes, moments, etc.) for today.

  1. "That's handier than a pocket on a shirt." Speaking of the mopeds on the UofA campus.
  2. Dad and I spent time fishing and watching Alabama football. Those were "our things" that we did together. On one fall fishing trip, my lure got stuck in a tree upon me casting (totally a rare occurrence). Dad, in an effort to save the lure in the tree, decided he should stretch his body as far as possible to retrieve it. Unfortunately, it was just too far and dad fell in the water. He lost the lure, the bobber, and his reel. Shivering and soaked from head to toe, he climbed back into the boat. It was so cold, we had to leave the lake. He always said I pushed him in on purpose.
  3. Even on dad's last day, he was shaking hands and thanking people for visiting him. He never met a stranger, and he cared deeply about every single person he met.
  4. Dad smiled with his entire face. He lit up the room when he walked into it.
  5. Two days before he passed away, Dad was saying a few things that just didn’t make sense together. I thought he asked me to put his blanket on the pool table. When I asked, “You want me to put it on the pool table?” He said, “No, I want you to put it on the Bill… Me.” And he grinned.
